Interview
Each month the Altered Fields will feature a mix from a DJ and/or Producer from the Pacific Northwest, as well as an interview and track list from each mix. This month features Seattle's @emuhmusic with an eclectic mix of house, drum & bass, and future beats.
What inspired your mix/what mood or vibe were you trying to achieve with this mix?
So the mix was inspired by what i perceive as the current state electronic music. I've been listening to many genres of music and I wanted to present tunes i'm working on as well as some songs by artists i really like right now. i'm trying to tell a story with the music as well as expose listeners to new things, like drum and bass or house music, which have sort of a bad rap thanks to big-name EDM/electronic acts.
Where did you record the mix, and what equipment did you use?
I recorded the mix at my house in west olympia using ableton live 9 suite, max for live plugins, stock ableton effects and a pioneer efx-500. i did the mix in one take but i edit/smooth with some ableton effects. the transitions are/were pre-planned so i know exactly how to transition as best as possible. I’ve been making a lot more experimental sound recently and i used my own samples/one-shots to add atmosphere during/between songs.
What have you been up to with DJing and producing?
i've been working on a lot of different kinds of tracks recently. its also been interesting to look back and see my growth as a musician. as well as get ideas for the future! Stay tuned for some releases in 2017!
