Future Self

November 1, 2019

Interview

Future Self in an up and coming DJ from Bellingham exploring gritty halftime and jungle sounds popular in the UK and the US. With an attentive ear to detail, Taylor uses his smart mixes to lay down heavy, bass-centric mixes.

What have you been up to?

I've been pretty busy rotating between DJing and music production. I love how these two things really fuel each other. It's hard not to be inspired when you're constantly digging for new sounds.

Tell us a bit about the mix!

It's all drum and bass with a lot of jungle inspired halftime tracks! It's kind of a specific sound. These tracks have a really cool blend of old and new.

Where are you at when you’re not behind the decks?

I'm probably either cooking, running, meditating, sleeping, or just hanging out with my roommates.

What are you listening to when you’re not in the mix?

I have a weird mix of music tastes. I love heavy bass sounds from artists like G Jones, Chee, and Ivy Lab, but at the same time I'm drawn to these pretty sounds from artists like Cashmere Cat, Lido, and Tourist. If I'm just hanging out though, it's probably Mac DeMarco or ambient stuff.

What are you up to next?

My plan is to dive deeper into music production. DJing has really helped me solidify the type of sounds I want to create. Now I just need to carve out the time to try it out.
