Review: Flittie - Guardienne

Forrest Michael

September 11, 2026

Appearing from the Seattle underground like a sunbeam splitting the overcast, Flittie emerges with her debut EP Guardienne. Testament to the power of tapping into ones own creative authenticity, this radiant record is beautifully expressive and emotionally raw - a masterclass in constructing one's own reality from the imagination.

Over four songs, Farren Rice, aka Flittie, fuses influences ranging from various video game soundtracks to new and old trip hop, dream pop, and breakbeat into a singular creative vision. Nearly two years in the making, the labour of love in every moment is striking. Each song it's own landscape on the map of Flittie's sonic world, immersing you more deeply in a universe built on equal parts wonder and nostalgia.

"...writing for me has always been about reclaiming and sharing my own voice. I wrote my first song when I was 11, so every song since has been a cultivation of that little voice and her experience."

What shines most clearly throughout the record is Farren's insistence on remaining true to herself. Written entirely independently, Guardienne is the result of Farren acting as her own conduit, responding to the intentions she placed before herself, and allowing for the lyrical messages to reveal themselves through her process.

Inspired by her friends and family, travels and adventures, long conversations and late nights, the EP is a love letter to her own lived experience, and those people and places she has shared it with.

"Trust in yourself, others… trust in your destiny. I’m in awe of what trust has helped me to build, it’s worked from the inside out. I lived so much of my life repressed that my trust in myself took years to rebuild, and I think creating and sharing your art is one of the most intense trust exercises you can do."

Guardienne is available now digitally via Bandcamp.
