Word has been getting around regarding BodyTalk's wildly expressive parties, centered as much around fashion, art, and music as they are on inclusivity. For her third event, dear friend of Peace Portal and head of BodyTalk Productions, Savannah Cole has gotten a good bit of gossip going in Seattle. And after the last couple of parties in Bellingham, we can confirm the rumors are true.
Featuring favorite selectors in the scene, local drag performers, and vendors from down the West Coast, this week's event at Seattle's Timbre Room is set to live up to the excitement.
"Its going to be sassy, fast, and bossy," Cole says herself.
This attitude will particularly be noticed on the dance floor with a heavier focus on techno, electro, and breaks with Korra the Kid and Benoit on opening duties. Headliner Bimbo Hypnosis is also well known for their heavy handed mixes, while being an integral player in keeping Seattle's clubs forward thinking as a part of Babe House and 4thegurlz.
"Its important for me to continuously book performers and artists who push that heteronormative boundary than mainstream music has boxed us into by showcasing women, queer artists, and POC performers," Cole said.
"While it's about the music, and being in awe of whats around you, it's also about the representation, inclusivity, and positivity this scene is built on."
Cole says this intention has become an increasingly important part of the curation process over the last several events. And it would seem the community behind her events are behind her.
"I got hooked up with the Kremwerk complex which has been amazing. Kremwerk's is queer, self expressive, and beautifully genuine. I knew this was the only place to hold the next BodyTalk."
This BodyTalk will feature drag performances from locals Rowan Ruthless and Hoochie Papa.
Featured vendors include clothing and art from Bellingham's Natalie Millsap, polymer clay jewelry from Avary Lenz, totes and earrings from Haute After Dark, various homemade accessories from NolKnow, and a BodyTalk staple, tooth gems from Natalie Caldwell. Cole says she's rolling out the first BodyTalk merch for this week's event as well.
